U.S. opens a temporary path for Russian diesel as Ukraine talks continue
The Treasury Department issued a license Friday allowing the sale, delivery and importation of Russian-origin diesel through April 7, 2027. President Donald Trump said Russia would immediately supply more than 300,000 tons, followed by larger volumes, but those quantities remain an announced plan rather than completed deliveries. Separately, U.S., Ukrainian and European negotiators met in Miami to work toward a joint peace proposal for Russia.
Why Americans should know: Diesel prices affect trucking, farming, heating and the cost of many goods in the United States. The waiver could ease supply pressure, but it also changes how Washington uses energy sanctions intended to reduce Moscow's war revenue.
