Riyadh airport attacks kill three as the Yemen conflict expands
Saudi authorities said Friday that two attacks Thursday on Riyadh's King Khalid International Airport and a grounded Saudia aircraft killed three Saudi citizens and wounded several other people. Yemen's Houthi movement claimed responsibility, while Saudi-backed forces continued an offensive against the group and Saudi strikes hit Houthi targets in Sanaa. Airport operations resumed, but many international airlines suspended service.
Why Americans should know: The escalation threatens civilian aviation and the Red Sea routes that carry global trade and energy shipments. It also raises risks for American travelers, U.S. partners and fuel prices already strained by the wider Middle East war.
